All managed care professionals are welcome as members of the American Association of Managed Care Nurses. Do note that in order to take the CMCN/P examination, you must hold a current valid medical license (e.g. RN, LPN, LCSW, LPC, etc) in an American State, territory, or protectorate.

AAMCN is a membership organization focused on continuing education. Membership renews annually. The Certified Managed Care Nurse/Professional is a certification managed by our sister organization the American Board of Managed Care Nursing. That certification renews every three years. While AAMCN and ABMCN are sister associations, they are two separate organizations. No AAMCN membership is required for an ABMCN certification and vice versa.
-
The CMCN/P certification is managed by the American Board of Managed Care Nurses. In order to earn the certification, you must pass their certification exam. To qualify to sit the exam, you may do the AAMCN Home Study Program or submit your resume. Visit abmcn.org for more information.
-
This self study program (textbook and study guide) worth 18 CEUs qualifies graduates to sit CMCN/P examination for certification. More information can be found in the “Home Study” tab.
-
Access to the home study program is done manually. You will receive your login information within three business days. Reach out to aamcnadmin@aamcn.org if you do not receive it.
-
You have six months to complete the home study program. After completion, you have another four months to sit the CMCN/P exam. If you need an extension, please contact aamcnadmin@aamcn.org.
-
The home study program (textbook and study guide) was developed specifically to prepare students for the CMCN/P exam. While the textbook covers all of the topics of the exam, the presentations in the study guide take a more in-depth look at each topic and has practice questions for each chapter along with a glossary for studying. For some students, the textbook will be plenty to prepare for the exam while others will benefit from the additional materials available in the study guide. Only the home study program awards the student continuing education credits.

While ABMCN asks for the last four digits of the social security number for sitting the CMCN/P exam, US citizenship is not required. It just makes it easier for people to remember their certification #. CMCN/P exam sitters must have a medical licensure from an American State, territory, or protectorate. Additionally, the CMCN exam and the AAMCN Home Study Program is entirely based on the US healthcare system, so unless the person in question plans to work in that system soon, this program is probably not the right fit for them. We do not ship internationally, so we recommend the online-only home study for anyone who wishes to purchase it outside the US.

When we receive requests for a mentor, we verify your AAMCN membership, and then we reach out to our mentors to see who might be available to take on a new mentee with the goals you have laid out in your application. Once we have a match, we will introduce you both via email. For requests to become a mentor, we will verify your eligibility, and then reach out to onboard you to the program.
