We encourage all of our members to become active in encouraging the youth in their communities to learn about the nursing profession. There is a large nursing shortage in today’s world and it is very important to create a higher level of interest in nursing throughout communities, particularly for high school students.
Basically, mentoring consists
of speaking at career days or attending any special educational offerings that
yield to the promotion of the profession.
If you would like assistance
from AAMCN in advocating the profession to youth in your community, please
contact Patti Hulcher at phulcher@aamcn.org or 804.747.9698.
The mission of the nursing student mentor program is to equip future nurses to grow and to help them successfully contribute to this profession. The vision of this program is to give college students exposure to successful role models who can introduce them to the realities of nursing and direct them towards the appropriate career path. There is a myriad of nursing specialties, even within the managed care arena, and it is important for all students to know what is out there before choosing their paths.
Students who apply to be mentored will be matched with one of our skilled mentors and will then be given the opportunity to work closely with the appointed nursing professional for an unlimited period of time.
If you are a college student, working towards a BSN or ADN, and are interested in taking advantage of our mentor program, please click here to view the Student Mentor Program application.
