Membership Development Council – We are always seeking out new members, and we welcome your feedback on ideas for recruitment and retention
Education Advancement Council – Health care is an ever-changing industry and we work hard to make sure our members are always educated on current trends and methods
Leadership Council – The Leadership Council is designed to provide mentoring and education to members to become leaders in their organizations and communities
Research Council –The goal of the Research Council is to prove the value of care management and other patient advocacy through the use of tools & resources in marketplace demonstration projects
The below AAMCN members have been approved as mentors by the AAMCN Board of Directors, as they all have experience as experienced managed care nurses. Daniel Berman DBA/HCA, MSN, RN, FACHE
Dr. Berman’s experience shows his dedication to furthering the knowledge of his colleagues in healthcare. He has taught courses in nursing leadership, healthcare administration and policy, community health, and quality management at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level since 2005. And he has worked as Quality Improvement Director for a staff model managed care organization, Director of Inpatient Services for publicly funded mental health hospital and as a hospital Director of Case Management, Social Services and Crisis Intervention.
Dr. Berman received his master’s in nursing from St. Joseph’s College in Maine and his doctorate in Business/Healthcare Administration from Northcentral University in Arizona. He is a member of AAMCN, National Nurses in Business, American College of Healthcare Executive and numerous other organizations.
Patricia Conley, RN, BSN, OCN, CMCN
Ms. Conley has experience as a Case Manager at an MCO doing a combination of disease management and complex case management. She currently works as an Oncology Care Manager for ITA Partners, focusing on education, care and cost savings for both patient and insurance. She received a BSN from Wilmington College and is pursuing a Masters in Healthcare Administration at Kennedy Western University. Ms. Conley is interested in assisting colleagues as a mentor by sharing with them her knowledge, specifically in the areas of Disease Management, Patient Education, Research and Case Management.
Nancy Eberhard, RN, BSN, CMCN
MS. Eberhard has worked in the managed care industry for over 20 years with increasing positions. She received her BSN from DePauw University and her Nurse Examiner degree from Purdue University. Her experiences include leadership in Claims/Benefits, Utilization Management, HEDIS reporting for Medicaid programs and Health and Wellness programs. In addition to obtaining the Certification in Managed Care Nursing, she also acquired the Interqual Certification for Professional Utilization Review. Ms. Eberhard is currently the Corporate Director, Pay for Quality for HealthSprings Inc. She is interested in mentoring those interested in Leadership, Fundamentals of Managed Care, Utilization Management, Medicare/Medicaid, Career Guidance, Administration Management, Technology/Internet, and Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement. She has a great desire to assist nurses in their growth to become strong leaders in the industry.
Janet Gilbert, RN, DNP, CMCN, CCM
Ms. Gilbert has over 39 years of nursing experience ( 22 critical care, 17 in managed care). She received her degree from Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in 1978, her BSN from the College of Mt. St. Joseph, her MSN in Administration from Xavier University in 2005, was certified in managed care nursing (CMCN) in 2001 and received her doctorate in nursing in May 2016. Ms. Gilbert has been a member of Sigma Theta Tau since 2003, an active member of AAMCN since 2000 and served on the AAMCN Board of Directors. Ms. Gilbert has played many different roles as a managed care nurse, which include being an online UM RN, a team lead, Manager of Precert and her current position of Director of Medical Management at Anthem, where she has been employed for the past several years.
Vineta Mitchell, RN, BSN, MBA/MHCM, CMCN, CCM
Mrs. Mitchell’s has more than 35 years of nursing experience with Critical Care background and certification. She has worked in managed care for 19 years. She is certified in Managed Care and Case Management. She is serving as a clinical instructor for the last five years and has been able to apply her clinical expertise in Nursing fundamentals, Medical Surgical Nursing and Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing in the training of students. Her passion is for quality nursing and improvement for the most improved health outcomes.
Mrs. Mitchell currently works at an MCO servicing those with chronic diseases with disease management and complex case management. Mrs. Mitchell has written articles on recruiting nurses for the nursing profession and the skills necessary for field Case Management in the managed care environment. She is a member of AAMCN, CMSA, and NLN. Mrs. Mitchell is passionate about assisting all nurses through mentoring by sharing her knowledge gain through education, work experience and collaborative relationships in the area of Fundamentals of Managed Care, Case Management, and all areas of Health Care Management (Utilization Management, Disease Management, Population Management, and Quality Management). Mrs. Mitchell motto is “meet people where they are”.
Sheryl Riley, RN, OCN, CMCN
Ms. Riley has been working in case management for over 20 years with expertise in Home Care, Home Infusion, Hospital Nursing, Managed Care, Disease Management, Rehabilitation/Exercise Therapy, Computer Software, Administration and Teaching. She currently works for SAI Systems as Director of Clinical Programs and has her own patient advocacy/navigation business. She received an Associate Degree in Applied Science for Nursing and an Associates in Business from Raritan Valley Community College and is certified in both Oncology and Managed Care Nursing. Ms. Riley would enjoy sharing her experiences with nurses looking to change positions or who are merely looking for some guidance. Her specific areas of ingenuity are Leadership, Fundamentals of Managed Care, Utilization Management, Disease Management, Medicare/Medicaid Managed Care, Career Guidance, Administration/Management, Patient Education, Technology/Internet, Reporting, Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement, and Case Management.
Mary Wassell, RN, PAHM, FAHM, CMCN
Mary is the Vice President of Provider Relations for Quad City Community Healthcare and the Senior Vice President of Care Management for Valley Health Services. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and stressing the importance that Managed Care Nurses play in the total care of the patient. Mary has worked in Managed Care for 32 years in various capacities including, but not limited to Utilization Management, Case Management, Provider Relations, Quality Improvement, Provider and Member Relations/Service, Provider Contracting, and Administration. She also has had some experience in Disease Management, Medicare/Medicaid Managed Care, Patient Education, and Reporting.
In addition, Mary has had responsibilities that include the oversight and management of budgets in the regions she was responsible for and working with the Management Team on initiatives to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of care. While a Regional Manager, Quality Improvement, she led efforts in the first NCQA accreditation in the areas that she was responsible for by setting expectations, reviewing against expectations and then executing corrective action plans to correct deficiencies. In Mary’s current position, she has led the Health Plan to full URAC Accreditation for Health Utilization Management and reaccreditations with no deficiencies.
